Ticketing
Novabase IMS also includes the Ticketing area, which has a prominent market position, primarily through AFC (automatic fare collection) solutions deployed for key public
passenger transport operators on a national level, covering all land and waterway means of transport, as well as in Spain and France.
In this area, Novabase offers integrated systems supporting the entire process of sales, payments, access control, fraud detection, operations monitoring and financial management, with end-to-end solutions covering devices and systems needed to complete the life cycle of a ticket and its support materials, from its sale to back-office revenue calculation and distribution.
With regard to its business in 2009, developments in several ticketing systems currently in production, particularly largescale systems (Carris, Fertagus, Transportes
Intermodais do Porto, Seville metro, Tenerife metro) are particularly noteworthy from a functional and infrastructure standpoint, as is the deployment of horizontal features for
various operators, such as intermodal integration in the Lisbon metropolitan area and implementation of the SUB23
transportation pass nationwide. We also continued preventive, corrective and ongoing maintenance activities for the existing installed base, which represents a significant part of this unit’s business.
Signed agreements to be carried out in 2010 include ticketing for the Lyon airport shuttle and the development of an extended back-office version for an NFC system (near
field communication, allowing cell phones to be used as tickets) for Veolia (the world’s largest private operator), both in France. Beyond the arena of traditional passenger
transport operators, of particular importance is the ticketing area’s involvement in the School Card (Cartão Escola) project, where this area will be responsible for developing
and producing the access control system to be installed at schools.
