Novabase Capital

History

  • Over the last fifteen years, Novabase Capital’s history can been divided into three distinct phases, each with different investment guidelines and resources. However, throughout the three phases, there has been a solid, ever-present management core that has ensured the initial spirit with which it was created: supporting the creation, growth and internationalization of Portuguese technology-based companies.

    Novabase Capital evolutionary phase:

Established in November 1993, Novabase Capital has supported countless Portuguese promoters and visionaries in the creation and growth of their technology-based companies. Many are currently key companies on the ICT scene, or are part of the country’s main technology groups.

The Novabase Group opened a new chapter with its new framework, and after becoming listed on the stock exchange.

The investment orientation towards high-potential technology-based companies was defined from the outset. Novabase Capital has invested in various companies, from multimedia in the Internet area to companies that have innovated in delivering news information to their customers, as well as in various thematic portals and web-marketing companies.

Following legislative changes that established an appropriate framework for the development of venture capital firms in Portugal, Novabase Capital became a venture capital firm in December 2003.

  • In June 2005 the €7,120,000 venture capital fund Novabase Capital was established, owned 70% by IAPMEI with co-ownership of PRIME and 30% by Novabase Capital. Having invested all of its capital, this fund successfully closed out its investment period at the end of 2007. With a useful life of ten years, it is dedicated to minority holdings in SMEs based in Portugal that have a strong technology base. The first divestiture took place in late 2008, with the sale of its stake in Segthor, which generated a significant profit (19.06%) for the fund.
